Plants Vs Zombies - Pogo Party

Pogo party is a mini game within Plants vs Zombies. I accessed to some gaming sites yesterday and found that it is perhaps one of the mini games that people seem to have trouble with. For myself, I won it in the third try. In the first try, I didn't know what to expect so I lost quite quickly. The second try is much better, just that I was careless and let a pogo zombie hop all the way through without even noticing, perhaps due to tiredness of my eyes for playing too long.

My strategy is quite unorthodox, because it relies on chompers. Yes, you read it right. CHOMPERS, the seemingly useless plant.

How I came to use chompers is because I noticed that the pogo zombies have quite a bit more endurance than normal zombies, even after the pogo stick is sucked away by the magnet. Even 2 cabbage-pult in a row cannot stop them without the outer one being eaten. Furthermore, I noticed that the zombies come one by one, slowly when not in "a huge wave". So, I need something that can kill zombies with more than average toughness and the reload speed need not be very fast. There comes the idea of using chompers.

My selected plants are these: Chompers, Jalapeno, Sunflower, Twin Sunflower, Frost Shroom, Flower Pot, Magnet, Coffee Bean, Pumpkin and Pumpkin Imitator. Oh yeah, be sure to buy the roof cleaners from Crazy Dave for $3000. Small change right?

The strategy: Focus on sun power collection. Build and build sunflowers as fast as possible and upgrade to twin sunflower when it comes. When Pogo zombies comes by, ignore it! Make full use of your roof cleaners! I don't know if it is luck or what but I never got two Pogo Zombies coming in the same lane after one another during the early game period. They would come in such a pattern that one will appear in one lane only, which will be stopped by my roof cleaners while I am building up a massive sunlight factory. I suspect it is not luck, because even the tree of wisdom did recommend using roof cleaners.

After all the roof cleaners are used up, you should have 2 rows of sunflowers, with a few twin sunflowers, at least 3 magnet, if not 5, and several chompers with pumpkin to buff them. A thing to note about magnet. Before the roof cleaners are used up, DO NOT WAKE THEM UP! Just plant them and keep them asleep. You definitely do not want the pogo-less zombies to walk by and eat your plants before an appropriate defense force is ready. I emphasize that the early game is to build and gather sunlight, not to build a defense yet.

By this time, the first wave should be coming. The pumpkin protected chompers should be capable to absorb quite a bit of damage. If it falls, feel free to build another. By now, your sunlight should be more than enough to spam. You may also need to pumpkin your other plants, because the magnet might suck a pogo stick in mid air, dropping the zombie on a pumpkin-less plant. That is why I used imitator. You should save jalapeno for emergencies, like a case where all your magnets are used up and one lone pogo zombie goes through all the way, like what it did in my second game.

Frost shrooms are marvelous plants, since it slows down the zombies, giving you precious time for the magnets and chompers to reload and slow down the eating of the zombies, saving your pumpkins as well. The beautiful thing about chompers is that it can eat stuff two spaces in front of it! If a chomper is placed behind another plant, it can eat the zombie that is eating the plant in front. Another great thing about chompers is the fast reload time. You can always dig out a chomper that is digesting and drop another one or just put another flowerpot in the front column and a chomper on it for quick killing.

I hope this can help people to clear that mini game easily. Although I would like to think that this is my original idea, this may not be true. There are a lot of smarter people than yours truly. If another person has already shared something like this online or what, I would like to say that I did not copy or intend to copy what you have done or wrote or shared or anything else. It would be a case of coincidence, since I would not copy another person's ideas and pass them off as my own. In that case of coincidence, I would give full credit to the originator of the idea. By the way, have fun playing the game!

Trivial Pursuit - A New Way to Play

Trivial Pursuit originally was a board game testing a players general and popular culture knowledge. It was created in 1979 by Scott Abbott who one day found pieces of his scrabble missing and decided with some friends to create their own game which after some development was released in 1982. In 1984 over 20 million games were sold and had been sold in 26 countries in 17 languages. Trivial Pursuit has been developed into TV shows in several of the countries including the USA, England and Spain and the game itself has also appeared in several TV shows including Seinfeld.

Trivial Pursuit has also been a highly competitive game with people really getting fired up over the questions, certainly everyone has that one fact they learned through playing trivial pursuit that they will never forget. There have been several editions to suit different age ranges including Trivial Pursuit Junior and Trivial Pursuit Family as well as the original Trivial Pursuit. To celebrate the 25 year span of this well loved game there will be a relaunch of the boxed game as well as an online version with a version available for the Playstation 3, Nintendo Wii and Xbox 360 (and Live).

With various playing modes such as multiplayer and single player there are some good games such as 'clear the board' to name but one from within the single player mode. The visuals are good and there are a lot of new questions and types that are exclusive to the console version and it allows you to play amongst the family at home on the living room TV. On the down side, the questions are a little repetitive after a while and although the quality of the asked trivia questions is good, some of you will be left pondering random arts books that you swear blind were never even written! All in all EA have developed a fairly strong outing for a classic board game's adoption to the gamers world, although if these games translate very well is a different question altogether.

Free Games Review - Sushi Go Round

Following in the footsteps of popular games such as Cake Mania and Burger Island, Sushi Go Round puts you in a in the role you always dreamed of - a sushi chef! This is one of my favorite free games partially due to the casual nature of the game and I think it is a clever twist on these multi-tasking games.

The game play element is simple, you start with 6 ingredients that can place on a sushi mat and following the recipes provided in the recipe book, create different items from the menu. Watch out if you mess up the recipe because you will create a plate of mush that wastes valuable ingredients. You will quickly run out of the various ingredients so you have the option to phone and order more supplies but careful, it will cost you money. A nice part of this game is they have removed the serving portion of the game and let you focus on being the chef by having an in game conveyor belt whisk the food away to your customers. The goal is to make a certain amount of money per day so you have to manage your ingredient costs vs your profit costs. Each day will end when the day timer in the top of the screen runs out and each day progressively gets more difficult.

My one complaint is the conveyor belt is one way so if the customers start lining up in the game, a new person could sit down and accidentally steal a waiting customers food! You want to avoid angering the customers as they will leave if they do not receive their food in a certain amount of time. Luckily, you have a few bottles of sake you can give to impatient customers to help them be less anxious.

Within a few minutes you will be whizzing and whirling various pieces of raw fish, nori, rice and wrapping them like a professional chef all the while humming the cheerful little game tune playing as background music. This game should be able to be completed within 30 minutes and no in-game save functionality was built it. If you are looking for an entertaining free online game, look no further than Sushi Go Round!

Ned is a big free online games fan and can always show you some good free 3D games.

A history of playing games

Spacewar! - 1962

Arguably the first video game as we know it, Spacewar! was developed by ambitious student hackers at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. A simple two-player battle game, it ran on a gigantic mainframe computer and was stored on reels of paper tape

Multi-User Dungeon - 1978

Created by an Essex University student, MUD let people all over the world adventure in the same game for the first time. It sowed the seeds of modern phenomena such as World of Warcraft - and entranced the engineers who developed the internet

Home Computers - 1982

Sold to parents as educational devices, computers such as the Sinclair Spectrum truly succeeded because of their early prowess as gaming systems. In the end education won out - a whole generation of kids became computer literate and went on to turn Britain into a game-development powerhouse

3-D Graphics - Mid-1990s

There was an explosion in the Nineties in the development of 3-D technology, fuelled by consumer demand for increasingly complex 3-D games. Prices tumbled and performance improved exponentially - and the knock-on effect opened up 3-D imaging to a host of medical and military applications

PlayStation - 1995

Sony's entry to the video game market precipitated a huge change not only in video games, but also in youth culture as a whole. Games escaped the schoolyard and started being promoted in nightclubs - and the new obsession with Tekken, WipEout and Final Fantasy has fuelled trends in fashion, music and cinema ever since

Nintendo DS - 1997

With its sights set firmly on new markets, Nintendo's ground-breaking handheld console featured an intuitive touch-screen interface - and a host of software designed to break out of gaming's existing congregation and provide entertainment to young and old, male and female. It worked. The diminutive system is set to sell its 100 millionth unit this year

Volume rises for music video games

It turns out everyone just wants to be a rock star.

Music-genre video games "Guitar Hero" and "Rock Band" are bona-fide smash hits, entering the rarefied air once reserved for only the elite first-person shooters, "Mario" games or sports titles. And success breeds imitation.

Music games seemed to be everywhere at this week's E3 video game trade show and it wasn't just Activision Blizzard Inc showing off its upcoming "Guitar Hero: World Tour" or MTV Games, a unit of Viacom Inc, providing a sneak peek at "Rock Band 2." Both are due out later this year.

Nintendo Co Ltd debuted "Wii Music," a game that lets you simulate playing over 60 different instruments, while Konami Corp and Microsoft Corp also showed off new music games of their own on the horizon.

"Music has really become the killer application," said Don Mattrick, a Microsoft senior vice president, who runs the company's Xbox business.

Music genre games accounted for 16 percent of U.S. video game software sales in 2007 and comprised a staggering 44 percent of last year's software sales growth, according to research from investment bank UBS Securities.

The genre evolved out of the once popular rhythm game genre. In rhythm games like Konami's "Dance Dance Revolution," players score points by stepping on a touch sensitive pad in time with generic music.

In music games, the touch sensitive pad was replaced with a toy musical instrument and the generic songs were replaced with recognizable rock hits, giving players the simulated experience of playing real instruments.

"It is really a hot genre that's bringing in families and people that never played games before," said Electronic Arts Games Label president Frank Gibeau. EA is the distributor for "Rock Band."

WII CAN PLAY TOO

Nintendo's music game grabbed the most headlines. "Wii Music," designed by the company's game creator Shigeru Miyamoto, lets players use the Wii's motion-sensing controllers to play the saxophone, violin or other instruments.

The initial reaction to the game seemed lukewarm. Some dismissed it as too basic because it does not keep score and does not allow an out of tune note.

More faithful to the genre is Konami's "Rock Revolution."

The game features 40 songs and will offer more once the game is released. It comes with a guitar and a bass, but Konami is especially proud of the game's drum set, which includes a foot pedal and six drum pads to beat.

"All the fame and glory goes to the lead singer and guitarist, but the drummer is often the heart of the band," said Konami spokeswoman Mondonna Akharan.

Konami, which enjoyed success with singing game "Karaoke Revolution," pioneered the space with a "Guitar Hero"-like arcade game nine years ago in Japan called "GuitarFreaks."

Microsoft also introduced a new singing game called "Lips," a new game exclusive to its Xbox 360 platform.

It will come with two wireless, motion-sensitive microphones and players can sing along to songs from their own music collection in their iPod or other digital music players as long as the tracks are not rights protected.

The microphones can be played like tambourines or a cowbell and waving it in the air can prompt the crowd to follow suit.

At a time when the music industry is battling online piracy and declining sales, the popularity of music genre games has provided a silver lining for both artists and record labels.

AC/DC signed a deal to make its songs available on "Rock Band 2" while Guns N' Roses will debut a single from its long-awaited new album on the game.

Metallica's new album will be made available for download on "Guitar Hero III" on the day the album is released in September. It will also be licensed for "Guitar Hero: World Tour" game when the title becomes available later this year.
